Jensen Ackles from Supernatural will reprise his role as Batman in the upcoming DC animated movie Justice League: Warworld, which is set in the Tomorrowverse.
The actor will appear in Warworld, which will be distributed by Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment under the DC Universe Animated Original Movies label, alongside Darren Criss’ Superman and Wonder Woman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. After Batman: The Long Halloween and Legion of Super-Heroes, both of which were set in the Tomorrowverse, Ackles will be voicing the vigilante of Gotham City for the third time in the upcoming movie.
Justice League: Warworld, the seventh film in the Tomorrowverse, a group of animated DC films that share a consistent animation style and continuity, was first revealed at San Diego Comic-Con 2022. Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which gave the shared universe its name, debuted in 2020. Since then, Justice Society: World War II, Batman: The Long Halloween, Parts One and Two (all in 2021), Green Lantern: Beware My Power (2022), and Legion of Super-Heroes (2023) have all been released. The DC Animated Movie Universe, which was made up of 16 films that were released between 2013 and 2020, is replaced by and softly rebooted as The Tomorrowverse.
The DC Trinity ends up on Warworld.
Justice League: Warworld also received an official synopsis, which states: “Up until this point, the Justice League has been a loose coalition of superhuman beings. Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the others must somehow come together to form an unstoppable resistance capable of guiding an entire planet to freedom when they are taken to Warworld, a place of never-ending brutal gladiatorial combat. The upcoming animated film is directed by Jeff Wamester (Legion of Super-Heroes), who worked with Jeremy Adams (Supernatural), Ernie Albacker (Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War), and Josie Campbell (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power) on the script.
Ike Amadi, who previously played Martian Manhunter/J’onn J’onzz in Green Lantern: Beware My Power and Superman: Man of Tomorrow, is among the remaining cast members. Jonah Hex was portrayed by Troy Baker, Old Man by Matt Bomer, Machiste by Roger C. Cross, Bat Lash by Brett Dalton, Drifter by Trevor Duvall, Lobo by John DiMaggio (instead of Ryan Hurst from Man of Tomorrow), Mongul by Robin Atkin Downes, and Agent Faraday by Frank Grillo. Mariah Romanova is portrayed by Rachel Kimsey, David Lodge plays the Sheriff, Damian O’Hare plays Deimos, and Teddy Sears, best known for his role as Zoom on The CW’s The Flash, plays Warlord.
Justice League: Warworld will be released on digital and home video in the summer of 2023.
